Teach for America: Liberal mission helps... →
Okay, so I admit that I’m sometimes guilty of claiming that certain reform efforts tend to miss the forest for the trees, but I also recognize that I have a particular agenda that I wish were more heavily addressed. If a particular reform effort doesn’t address my agenda, so be it. There’s plenty of work to go around. All I could really get out of this article was “TFA...

– Matt Damon March 2011  (via occupyeducation) I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with what he said, but what does he mean by higher order? I really just don’t know what he’s referring to, not trying to be negative, for once.

Teacher writes 'stupid' on student's forehead →
heysnix: District leaders said it was especially troubling to learn that [the teacher] took the time to write “stupid” backwards on the child’s forehead so he could read it in the mirror. I am angered by this. No teacher should ever say that word to a student. I get mad when I hear teachers call students stupid or “idiot,” but this is beyond terrible.

First student gift of the holiday season:
kicksandgiggles: A bag of homemade rum balls. While I was opening the bag, the boy who gave them to me said: “My mom said they are made of parent juice. I’m not allowed to drink parent juice, but I guess you are.”  I died laughing once I figured out what he meant. The bag smelled like I had left my classroom and entered a bar. Guess mom knows how stressful teaching is. Happy holidays to...

By evaluating all students according to the same sort of testable rubrics that, when aced, propelled the reformers into the Ivy League and beyond, society’s winners seem to believe they can inspire and...
