Youth Rights, Dignity, and the Anti-Democratic... →
I feel like there are three different issues here, all with very different (but related) roots: 1) Behavior management: Based on my limited experience, I would agree that behavior management is a huge part of the problem in education (as I’ve noted several times). And like any set of laws (which really are just behavioral rules), it’s unfortunate when people’s freedoms are...

Another one for the kids who’ll end up on Google images, scrolling and scrolling and scrolling… You know me, pushin’ my gay agenda again.

Fell asleep on my keyboard.
Just woke back up. Closed out my work. Got on Tumblr. Inundated by attractive GPOYs. Attractive people shouldn’t be allowed on the internet. This place is reserved for the rest of us that aren’t meant for daylight. Go to your malls and parties and wherever it is you hot people go. Leave the world wide web alone, you don’t belong here. Goodnight interwebs.

Tumblr Teacher: Girl with a Lesson Plan: One... →
girlwithalessonplan: I don’t mind sharing my opinions about most topics with students if they ask me (and if it doesn’t deviate dramatically from plans). I feel this is important because teenagers should have “adult” conversations with adults to even LEARN how to have those conversations, or to learn and be part of a… This. Every. Day. It’s so hard to facilitate discussion when...

I have a student that’s obsessed with Twilight. I just saw these in my email. I sort of want to get them to bribe the kid into going to class.

New Resolutions
I know I’m late for making New Years Resolutions, but it’s Chinese New Year, and I’m Chinese, so I’m declaring that this counts. So here were mine from last year, the first year I ever made resolutions: Resolutions 2011 1. Stop being so analytical. Seriously, no one cares that much. 2. Let people be angry. Practice the “smile and nod.” 3. Be healthier. Me and the rest...

Saving TV Guts
Figured that I should probably check-in on that student activity. Sort of cool how our project has finally launched, and the kids are really into it. It’s really amazing to see how enthusiastic they are about this project. So in short, that session went alright. Given, the attendance for the group was relatively low, but I somewhat expected that, seeing as it was an off-day for the...

I basically have two three-hour activities/lessons...
I feel like I planned them out, but I still feel like I’ve forgotten something. I’m really anxious about them, which is weird because I never get nervous working with the kids, and I’ve completely improvised lessons in the past. Maybe it’s because more than any of the other things I’ve done with them, I really want the kids to enjoy tomorrow and get a lot out of it....

Teachers in Bankrupt Pennsylvania School District... →
alloveshaygore: The good: Would you still go to work every day if your boss couldn’t pay you? That’s what 200 teachers and 65 other employees of Pennsylvania’s Chester Upland School District have pledged to do after district officials told them that a $19 million budget shortfall meant they wouldn’t be receiving salaries. Sara Ferguson, who’s been a teacher in Chester Upland—a 3,700-student...
