Two AMAZING things happened this week...
1) Yesterday, I was accepted to Vanderbilt’s PhD program! In their Peabody School of Education, I was accepted to the Leadership, Policy, and Organizations program with a concentration in International Education Policy and Management. It’s fully funded with an additional stipend attached, and I have an additional stipend on top of that for a graduate fellowship program to which I was...

Just got back from an amazing recruitment weekend...
I applied to their Leadership, Policy, and Organizations with a concentration in International Education. Apparently, they should let me know within a week. Someone grant me the distraction not to focus on it over the next week so I don’t make myself crazy.

Lulu: You can't let guilt hold you back.
Kihimari: You have to stand up for yourself.
Auron: You have to choose your own fate.
Rikku: Race doesn't matter; your personality does.
Seymour: YOU'LL HAVE TO FIGHT MY DEAD MOTHER AND MYSELF MULTIPLE TIMES TO GET RID OF ME.

So my MBTI type has changed. Didn't know that was... →
Though I’ll admit that the difference in descriptions between my old type and this new one are extremely accurate to how I think I’ve changed over the past few years.

Truth Through Consilience: Misunderstanding... →
gladadam: I think that we have a major failing to understand what exactly technology is and what it means to us as educators, as well as what it means to our society at large. I keep seeing discussions of technology as if it were an extraneous element that is being forced in to the curriculum. The very… This is why I’m wary of technology best practices and things like that…

A Few Weeks Shy of the Real World: Education Ideas... →
“So from the realist perspective, it’s nice to think that someday education will become this beautiful, powerful, captivating, Ryan Gosling of America, but right now we’re at a Nicholas Cage.” Ahahaha nice.  I think that education has the potential for being that romanticized great equalizer, but I do admit that more and more as I work here in Baltimore, I doubt if the system can do...

– NY-Times (via thekillingjoker) There was this Taskforce that showed that in Maryland, we actually have an overabundance of computer science majors and a dearth of people in lower-skills jobs. It’s an interesting thing…I don’t think many people would be comfortable with really...

Blabbermouth...
I think one of the reasons why I feel like I talk an exhorbitant amount during meetings is because I don’t like arguing, and I don’t like reexplaining. This leads to two results: 1) I overuse disclaimers. I unconsciously pick through my statements, pull out all possible things that might be misinterpreted, and then address them ad nauseum before even getting to my point. 2) I have...

Alabama State Senator thinks raising teacher pay... →
“It’s a Biblical principle. If you double a teacher’s pay scale, you’ll attract people who aren’t called to teach. “To go in and raise someone’s child for eight hours a day, or many people’s children for eight hours a day, requires a calling. It better be a calling in your life. I know I wouldn’t want to do it, OK? “And these teachers that are called to teach, regardless of the pay scale, they...
