I just don’t understand why I have to defend being a teacher to my best friend.

Before they recognized that the situation for teachers in their immediate area was not the national norm, I had to defend being a teacher to my parents constantly.
It’s okay, I’ve had people in my family tell me that “education isn’t a real field,” and I don’t know how many arguments I’ve had with my family about the “those who can, do, and those who can’t, teach” thing.
