Teacher Dare Day: What is dead weight, and what do you do about it?
I had a really long discussion with my aunt today about teacher tenure. She works in the financial industry, and I’m, well, me, so we had some differences of opinion. It was a friendly, though quite involved discussion, but there was one thing that came up that I made a note to ask all of you:
I think that we can all admit that we know or have known of at least one teacher colleague that wasn’t doing so well. I can think of at least one myself, and I honestly say that I do feel frustrated when I feel that nothing has been done about their performance, even if that means moving them to a different position. And this isn’t a test score issue. This is just my non-expert opinion of them based off of what it seems their students are getting out of the class. Which is nothing.
So (and yes, I know this is a sticky question) for those of you that might know of someone like this, what do you think it is that keeps things from changing? And what is there to do about it?
