Regarding role-playing and simulations in trainings…

I’ve only ever found it useful maybe once. And I have a general disdain for simulation games as well, as I feel that they very rarely even remotely reflect the real situation. And as I once said as a response to a simulation game I was forced to play in a training: If this is a game, I will play the game. I don’t play at my job.

But, all annoyance aside, I do believe that they must serve some educational purpose for some people. I just can’t for the life of me figure out what they get out of it, besides maybe fun bonding time with the rest of us. And if that’s what you’re getting, I suggest we do something more fun. Like laser tag.

So, Tumblr people, do you think trainings in the form of game simulations are useful to you? And if you do, help the rest of us understand: What makes them useful?
