I just love the shit out of We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and I really can’t think of any problem you could have with it even as a Feminist Pop Culture Critic.

the scenario at the start — where the dude is putting a whole bunch of distance between them but it’s left up to Taylor to be the dickhead and actually dump him?  where she technically initiates the breakup but only technically?  RELATING SO HARD

But also, one very common experience that I find literally incomprehensible is wanting to get back together after a breakup for more than, like, a week or two.  IT’S CALLED A BREAK-UP BECAUSE IT’S BROKEN + why would anyone actually want to revisit anything anyway, after getting a little distance from the situation?  It’s like rewriting a crappy first draft except that the first draft said your friend was the pretty one and you were the smart one, never stood up for you to their friends, and failed to text back on a timely basis.  plus you won’t be penalised if you don’t have a draft ready.

I understand that it’s hard and I try to be sympathetic but it’s not something I can relate to. I am always, always the first one to walk away from relationships of any kind, the one who chucks it in, the one who doesn’t think it’s worth it trying to fix things, who doesn’t want to talk about it, and maybe I’ve lost some things that way but I sure have saved everyone a lot of time

in conclusion, I am an awesome friend and girlfriend you can truly rely on

I don’t think we’ve gotten any confirmation that it really is about John Mayer, have we?  Regardless,  I assume it is because fuck John Mayer.

I really have to hold myself back from trying to explain to my fellow grad students why I appreciate Taylor Swift as a person. I did it once towards the beginning of us all meeting each other, and I don’t think they’ve looked at me the same since then.
